Our Deliverer
Who delivered us from so great a death and does deliver; in whom we trust that he will yet deliver us. - 2 Cor 1:10
We are in constant need of deliverance, exposed, as we are, to continued, varied, and potent evils, visible and invisible, temporal and spiritual, to evade and overcome which we have no other power and can't depend on self- deliverance.
God is our deliverer. It is He who is our Portion, who taught us thus to pray, and who is Himself our Great Deliverer.
Lord delivers us of our past:
And first, there is the Lord's PAST deliverance. "Who delivered us from such a great death. Christ died as an atonement for our sins. He delivered us from the second death. He gives us wondrous deliverance, this perfect redemption, this free pardon; and by the application of the atoning blood to our conscience, walks in the happy enjoyment of all the blessings of a charter of salvation and celestial citizenship which Christ's deliverance makes ours.
Lord delivers us in the present:
Second, there is a PRESENT deliverance. Christ also delivers us from our sins through confession. He gives us joy and peace. He delivers from the powers of darkness and leads us in His kingdom. He has power to deliver us from our sorrows and temptations.
Lord will deliver us in the future:
Third, He who has delivered, who does deliver, will yet deliver us in all the FUTURE of our history. Faith acquires strength for the present by a remembrance of the past deliverance of God; and from the experience of the present, it looks forward with confidence to the future--"In whom we trust that He will yet deliver us.
Our God, who delivered Daniel from the clutches of ferocious lions, David from countless pursuers, Israel from the entire nation of Egypt, and Lazarus from four days of death, promises to deliver us from whatever schemes the world has set against us.
2 Samuel 22:2-4 says, "The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer, my God, my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold and my refuge, my savior; you save me from violence. I call upon the Lord, who is worthy to be praised, and I am saved from my enemies."
When we call upon the Lord our God, he works in mighty, mysterious, and perfect ways. God is perfectly able to do any and every work it takes to deliver us. Whether you need deliverance from sin, affliction, lies, or sickness, God has the power and desire to deliver you. He is both mighty and loving. He is both mysterious and real. He is both servant and King. And he sees your need and longs to meet you exactly where you are.
The Lord says to us, "Because he holds fast to me in love, I will deliver him; I will protect him, because he knows my name. When he calls me, I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble; I will rescue him and honor him. With long life I will satisfy him and show him my salvation" (Psalm 91:14-16).
Let us hold fast to the hand of our heavenly Father. Don't just put our head down through whatever circumstance is before us. Instead, call on our Great God and allow him to guide us, equip us, and empower us for whatever stands in our way.
Psalm 32:7 says, "You are a hiding place for me; you preserve me from trouble; you surround me with shouts of deliverance."
Spend time in prayer allowing God to deliver you, protect you, comfort you, guide you, and give you peace.
