No Bake Desserts
Desserts are a huge part of Indian culture. We have many varieties of desserts, all over the country. They may be fried, cooked, baked, or just mixed. Some are very rich, while others are light and airy.
In each part of India, there's a dessert, that can't be found anywhere else in the country. However, one common practice throughout is a dessert at the end of the meal. A dish to counteract all the other dishes and flavors that came before. A sort of sweet palate cleanser, if you will.
India's love for dessert at the end of a meal is so pronounced, that Cadbury took the idea and made a very successful ad campaign out of it. With taglines like, "Treat yourself with something sweet." or "Have something sweet before you start something new.", they've made themselves synonymous with dessert.
Dessert has its own superpower. It has the power to bring people together, to make us feel warm and fuzzy inside, or to cheer us up when we're feeling low and down. That's why it's a great treat at the end of a stressful day, or as advertised in plenty of movies and shows, when you've just broken up.
Although, it's not advisable to have too many sweets or sweets daily, as it may lead to health issues, anything at a moderate level is good and healthy. Another way to make sure we're taking care of our health while having desserts, is by preparing them at home ourselves. Desserts can seem daunting and time consuming, but I found these recipes, simple, quick and easy to make for anyone.
Usually I prepare kesari, a South Indian sweet, which is quick and easy to make. My children love it, and I even make it when I have guests at home. However, sometimes even I feel it becomes too repetitive, and routine.
These no bake desserts are a godsend to me, because living healthy doesn't mean saying "No" to dessert.
