Curry

Curry is a staple in the Indian household. It is a variety of dishes that has its roots in the Indian Sub-Continent. Each curry is made using different combinations of spices and herbs - depending on the origins and heritage of the dish. Curries can contain meats and/or veggies. They can also be wet or dry.

Not only is curry a staple for an Indian. It plays an equally key role in the diet of anyone who's ever been to an Indian restaurant. And I'm sure everyone would testify that curries play a major role in all their orders. It has us all going back for more. My friends always enjoy the curries I prepare, when they come over for dinner. For them, I make the curries mild, yet flavorful.

Contrary to belief, curries are not difficult to cook. All we need are a few veggies, herbs, and spices - all of which you'd find in your own kitchen pantry. The most well-known and popular of all curries, is the Butter Chicken. Famous for its smooth, mild, and creamy taste, they are ordered in restaurants everyday by millions around the world. It is however a simple dish, that can be made at home, more healthy and delicious.

Recently, even my husband had become an expert in preparing the Butter Chicken, by following this recipe.

Some curries of South Indian heritage are made with coconut milk, giving it a mild taste and smooth flavor profile. However, my children always prefer the Butter chicken. And I don't mind cooking it often as well, as it is healthy for the children. I usually prepare the curry with grilled chicken cottage cheese.

All curries can be personalized to an individual's taste. However, when it all comes down to it, the bottom line is that curries are versatile and go well on a bed of steamed rice or along side a plate of Indian bread.
