Brown Rice
Recently, I've been thinking about how to keep myself healthy as I grow older. I've heard various advice from friends and doctors; different suggestions on how to improve my well-being. I've tried following some of them to varying levels of success.
One such recommendation was brown rice, as it's a rich source of dietary fiber, packed with vitamins, minerals, and nutrients. My husband(Ravi) and I had only ever had white rice all our lives, so we were hesitant to try it. But the next time I was at the supermarket, I saw a display of big brown rice bags piled up. I took it as a sign, and grabbed 1 bag, even though I knew it would be too much for just the two of us.
As it was my first time cooking brown rice, I didn't realize how much longer it took to cook, than white rice. I wanted to give up on brown rice right then and there. Immediately, I regretted buying the huge bag. I thought to myself, "Maybe I should've bought a smaller bag to test out the rice first. The white rice would've cooked and we would be eating by now. The wait isn't worth it."
While the rice continued to cook, I sat down at my laptop and was scrolling through Facebook, when this image caught my eye.

Recognizing my negative outlook, made me realize I must keep an open mind and look forward to the cooked rice favorably.
Soon the rice finished cooking, and we sat down to eat. Unfortunately, neither of us enjoyed it.
Although, it wasn't to our liking, we accepted that it was something new to us, and we had to get used to it. However after a week of persisting with the brown rice, we felt it to be unsatisfactory. And Ravi asked me to return to the white rice.
Then, almost by divine intervention, I happened upon a video on YouTube. It was from a channel I had never visited before, and it was a recent release, at the time. I played the video; it was a guy presenting how to make easy, healthy meals using brown rice.
Since then, I've made almost all the recipes in the video and we have both enjoyed them all. Now, brown rice has become a staple in our diet. I urge you to watch the video and try them out for yourself. It's simple, healthy and delicious. I'm sure you will incorporate these brown rice dishes in your daily meals too.
Some may argue that the way these things happened, was purely out of coincidence or that I am making connections to God, where there are none. However, I believe that God is not only interested in our spiritual health, but our physical health as well. He wants us all to be strong, hale and healthy, so we are able to praise Him.
